Carla Collins is an award-winning comedian and one of Canada’s premier radio and television personalities. Declared “The Queen of Comedy” in the October 2002 issue of Flare Magazine, she is the first woman in Canada to front a major-market morning show, currently hosting “Carla & Company” on Toronto’s Mix 99.9.  Carla wrote and stars in “The Visionary Position”, the first in a series of comedy DVDs with EMI Music scheduled for release in February 2003. The DVD will include her first rap video as Queen Vanilla (MC Saltine, The White Salty Cracker...) entitled “Bitches Be Shoppin’”.  Carla hosted her own half-hour comedy series, “Chez Carla” on The Comedy Network as well as her first solo stand-up special “The Wonder Bra Years” on CTV. The special was a critical and ratings success, capturing a Gold Award for Best TV Comedy Special at Worldfest: Houston International Film and Television Festival. An accomplished stand-up, she has appeared at both Montreal’s Just For Laughs (where she hosted the special, “Front Row at Just For Laughs”) and the Vancouver Comedy Festival.  A popular comic actor, Carla starred on Showcase’s campy primetime soap “Paradise Falls” and has appeared on PAX’s “Doc”, Fox’s “Tracker”, Fox Family/YTV’s “The Zack Files” and Noggin/CTV’s “Degrassi: The Next Generation”. When not in front of the camera Carla works as Style Editor for Inside Entertainment magazine. She is also a contributing writer for several publications including Elle, The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Sun and Canadian Living Magazine.  A bilingual entertainer, Carla was listed by Profit Magazine as one of the most sought-after speakers for corporate engagements and she is a tireless volunteer for several charities including the Humane Society, the Hospital for Sick Children and the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.  Carla Collins lives in Toronto with her husband Jonathan and the wonder dogs Buster, Whiskey, Big Red and Bugsy, all of whom were adopted from the Humane Society. (Well, not Jon.)

TIC Annual Seminar - Capital Allocation in Canada, Sept 9, 2003, Marriott Hotel, email Margaret Parent, Executive Director for more information

When deciding where to allocate capital for maximum shareholder return - what do international property casualty insurers think of Canada?

In an insurance world of (perceived?!) scarce capital - given that Canada and Australia have traditionally been known as the worst performing nations from an operating loss ratio perspective AND that the Canadian economy could not possibly be the highest item on a European insurers' agenda - word on the street is that many insurers are reducing capital allocated to Canada.

What kind of returns has the Canadian market traditionally offered?  10 year view?
What is the current view of world-wide capital allocation to various national operating subsidiaries?
What are the decision making factors?
How could insurer consolidation affect this picture?
Could significant Ontario auto reform change the view?  How signficant a change?
Do Canadian insurers allocate capital by province?
Impact on Canadian insureds?
Could this issue mean a longer harder insurance market for Canadians?

Join the members of the Toronto Insurance Conference as our panel explores these issues on September 9, 2003.
