Membership Categories of the Toronto Insurance Conference

FULL MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY 

Definition:

 

Any self-employed individual, firm or corporation operating as an Insurance Broker, authorized by law, operating within the Greater Toronto Area, whose aims and practices are consistent with the objectives of the Conference shall be eligible for membership. (As defined in 6-1 of the By-Laws)

 

Newly defined qualification needing approval:

·         To qualify for membership, 65% of the firm’s revenue must come from commercial lines; grandfathering existing members.

 

Benefits:

·         Advocacy on legislative, regulatory, and common supplier environments ( i.e. Critical Coverage Reporting, Applied Systems, Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO));  - a TIC representative on the Board of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada Board

·         High-level networking activities (including such landmark annual events as the Black Tie Dinner, and the members-only annual Presidents’ Reception an opportunity to network with the top decision-makers of insurers who affect our mutual destiny);

·         Exchange of information and ideas that, because of its non-competitive arena, are mutually beneficial and relevant;

·         Social functions (Annual Golf Day);

·         Representation on the Executive Committee and/or TIC committees; and

·         Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.

 

 ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY

Definition:

 

Any self-employed individual, firm or corporation operating as an Insurance Broker, authorized by law, located outside of the Greater Toronto Area, whose aims and practices are consistent with the objectives of the Conference, shall be eligible for Associate membership at Associate membership fees as established by the Executive Committee from time to time. (As modified from 6-2 of the By-Laws)

Newly defined qualification(s) needing approval:

·         65% of the firm’s revenue has to come from commercial lines.

·         Must be members of IBAO to qualify for membership

 

Benefits:

·         1st notice of networking events including the golf tournament

·         Formalized venue to communicate with like-minded commercial insurance brokers

·         Increased understanding of the governmental and other issues that affect their business

Limitations:

·         Associate members do not get board representation nor votes at AGM

 SUPPORTING MEMBER CATEGORY 

Definition needing approval:

 

Any self-employed individual, firm or corporation offering supporting services to GTA based commercial insurance brokers, and whose aims and practices are consistent with the objectives of the Conference shall be eligible for Supporting membership at Supporting membership fees as established by the Executive Committee from time to time.

Potential Members:

·         Insurance companies do not qualify

·         Insurance litigators or adjusters do not qualify .

Benefits:

·         Branding and sponsorship opportunities to GTA brokers with over 65% commercial lines

·         Formalized venue to communicate with TIC members

·         Increased understanding of the issues that affect their customers

·         Opportunities to participate in select TIC events (for example, golf tournament and Black Tie Dinner)

·         Opportunity to invite TIC members to educational/informational events they may choose to coordinate.

Limitations:

·         Supporting members do not get board representation nor votes at AGM.
